The Media and Democrats Still Have Obama’s Back

In a sane world the Barack Obama would never have been elected, even once. But we don’t live in a sane world. The inmates are unquestionably running the asylum. No matter how adamantly his flacks insist that a glove hasn’t been laid on him, no matter how desperately Jay Carney tries to foist blame off on Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, “the previous administration” or other scapegoats, the president is immersed in the stewpot up to his neck. Whether the heat is dialed up under him or the contents are dumped back out into our laps remains to be seen.

The Benghazi hearings last week stirred up an astounding amount of public notoriety. Considering that it is this regime being called to account, it is amazing that headlines were devoted to it even for one day. After ABC dropped its bomb, citing the administration’s disinfecting of toxic CIA documents, even Britain’s press apologized for accusing Republicans of staging a witch hunt against the president.

Despite blistering evidence provided notably by Gregory Hicks, Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Tripoli and Mark Thompson, State Department Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Counterterrorism, one must look hard to find any mention of Benghazi in mainstream “news.”

Not surprising, considering the arm-twisting, closed-door meeting the White House ordered with reporters. The Mainstream Media’s temporary insanity was addressed. How dare they report White House chicanery, impeachable wrong-doing resulting in the deaths of our ambassador to Libya and three other Americans? Covered or not, administration fingers still point everywhere but at themselves.

The White House blames the State Department, Hillary blames underlings, and John Kerry and Joe Biden, both potentially seeking the presidential nod in 2016, are swearing to cooperate with the hearings in order to eliminate Hillary Clinton from consideration.

Last Thursday, the IRS delivered a bombshell; they admitted that they had “targeted” conservative political groups during the 2012 election to see if they were violating their tax-exempt status.

Denials of such activity were made to Congress back in 2012 by then-Commissioner Douglas Shulman. Chagrined that they had been unearthed by the Landmark Legal Foundation, the IRS apologized. The apology was not accepted. Jay Carney launched the now familiar Sgt. Schultz “We know nothing” defense. He stated that the White House didn’t know when they first learned that tea party groups were being targeted. .He then deflected blame squarely at a former Bush appointee.

Top IRS officials claim no knowledge of the offense, saying it was instigated and conducted by lower level IRS employees. That turns out to be (surprise, surprise) false. We now learn there is evidence that the IRS, at high levels, had their discriminatory plans in place in 2011.

Not surprising are the words that have been used to describe this egregious act by everyone from Senator Mitch McConnell to Lois Lerner, current head of the IRS division that oversees tax-exempt status. Words like “inappropriate,” “outrageous,” “shameful,” and “thuggish.” The word prominently absent, however, is “criminal.” It is illegal for the IRS to target political adversaries. It was the infamous enemies list and that got impeachment proceedings launched, forcing Richard Nixon to resign. Obama had the nerve to joke about tax persecutions in 2009. Clearly, it didn’t stop him from committing the same offense on his watch.

Obama has pushed the limits of tyranny because the media and his fellow Democrats have had his back. And they still do.
